We'll view three postcards that Emma sent to Jimmy on this date, seventy years ago. She's with her sister Una in Ironton, Ohio, helping to move Una into her barracks at Patterson Field in Dayton. So far, I don't know what work that Una will do there, and when I find out, I'll let you know.
For this post, I'll show the fronts of the postcards and type what Emma wrote on the back of each one. Then we'll read Jimmy's diary entry.

Postcard Number One (Notice the Forwarding Address to the Hospital):
Jimmy:
Thought I'd drop a card, will write more when I have time. I've been rushed like the dickens since Friday. Had to come to Ironton before going to Patterson Field, Dayton. Will tell you about it when I write a letter. Did you have a grand time over the 4th? Uncle Reo and Aunt Carrie came for evening, Vera & Edwin came for the party Saturday. Una came too, Friday evening. It put me in mind of Christmas Eve, remember?
Yours,
Emma
Postcard Number Two, Written at 1:35 P.M.
Dear Jimmy,
Will dash a card to you as I am up to my neck in work. Trying to get everything packed so Una may move into her barracks in Patterson Field. Starts work there Monday. How are you, honey? Thinking of you each day. Going home Friday.
Emma
Postcard Number Three, Postmarked 8:00 P.M. July 7, 1942
Hello Honey,
Right back in the spirit of things once again. It seems I am dreaming but it seems at times when I walk down the street, I'm "Down South" by the looks of the Army men here. Met a Lt. yesterday from Ft. Bragg, N. Car. home on leave, too.
Will write,
Emma

Was checked up by Doc some more. Gave him my life history. X-Rays show nothing. Urine normal. Took 45-minute sweat bath, nearly cooked me. Ruined my appetite.
Thought of Emma more than ever.
Tried to call her from P.X. as I still have no letters for a week. Her mother answered but I didn't talk to her. Am sorry I didn't now. She probably will feel awful.
